INDIANA, PA – For the fourth consecutive season IUP has advanced to NCAA postseason play as the Crimson Hawks will play host to an opening Atlantic Regional round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships this weekend.
The Crimson Hawks earned the second seed in the region and joining them in Indiana will be third seed West Virginia State, sixth seed Slippery Rock and seventh seed Shaw.
IUP owns a 17-7 overall record entering NCAA championship play, advancing to the finals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament for the third consecutive season.
The Crimson Hawks lineup will feature All-PSAC West selection
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) at number one singles. She tied for the team lead in singles wins, going 23-13 during the year, including a 14-4 mark at her spot in dual match play.
Another All-PSAC West pick will go at number two in
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston). She finished the year with a 23-8 overall record in singles play, going 14-1 in dual matches at the position and went 3-1 in divisional play.
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) is slated for the number three spot for IUP. She went 19-12 on the year and has an 11-7 mark in dual matches at number three this year.
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) will start in the fourth spot after racking up a 20-12 overall record in singles play.
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ), who has gone 20-11 this year, will play at number five. A 21-match winner,
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman), rounds out the lineup at number six.
On the doubles side, Eaton and Schnaas (22-12 record) will pair at number one; Osborne and Timko (25-9) will go at number two; and McCormick and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) (20-8) will play at number three.
Action gets underway in the first round on Saturday as IUP and Shaw will face off at 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Street Courts. West Virginia State and Slippery Rock will go at 3:30 p.m. The winner of each match will face off on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to the NCAA round of 16 in Sunrise, Ariz.
