INDIANA, PA – For the third consecutive match the Crimson Hawks didn't surrender a point as the 44th-ranked IUP women's tennis team shut out rival Slippery Rock 9-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Monday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks haven't dropped a single set during the three-match span and have won a total of nine consecutive matches.
Improving to 12-6 overall and 3-1 in PSAC West play, clinching the second seed in the division for next week's conference tournament.
The highlight of the match came at the number two doubles spot as
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) defeated Janelle Krantz and Lauren Coggins in a marathon 9-8 (9-8) match.
At number one,
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) and
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) teamed for an 8-5 win over Sarah Joumond and Kasey Love while
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) defeated Samantha Bruggeman and Courtney Gallagher 8-6 at number three.
In singles play, Eaton picked up the win at number one, defeating Joumond 6-4, 6-2. At number two Timko beat Love 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and at number three McCormick defeated Yetiskul 6-2, 7-5.
Also notching wins for IUP were Osborne at four over Krantz 6-4, 6-2; Schnaas over Coggins 6-3, 6-3 at five; and
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) over Bruggeman 6-2, 6-1 at six.
The Crimson Hawks have three more matches to wrap up the regular season this week, starting with a road match at Clarion on Tuesday. They'll also travel to West Liberty on Friday and host West Virginia State in the regular season finale on Saturday.
