No. 44 Women’s Tennis Earns 10th Consecutive Win with Shutout at Clarion

CLARION, PA – The 44th-ranked IUP women's tennis team recorded its 10th straight victory as the Crimson Hawks shut out Clarion 9-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was also the Crimson Hawks fourth straight 9-0 victory as they improved to 13-6 overall and 4-1 in division play. Clarion falls to 3-7 and 0-4.

It was an easy go for the Crimson Hawks in doubles play with a pair of 8-0 wins at the number one and two spots. Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) and Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) defeated Megan Bettwy and Caitlin Clemons at number one and Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ) shut down Lauren Zezenski and Claire Kerstetter.

At number three Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) and Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) defeated Michaela Hardy and Jessica Kennelly 8-2.

Osborne and McFail each scored 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action at spots three and six, respectively. Osborne took down Clemons and McFail defeated Kerstetter.

At number four Schnaas defeated Hardy 6-2, 6-0 while Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) also scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kennelly at number five.

Eaton took down Zezenski 6-1, 6-1 in the first spot and Timko defeated Bettwy 6-0, 6-2 at number two.

The Crimson Hawks have already secured the second seed in the West in next week's PSAC tournament. They'll wrap up their regular season schedule this weekend with a road match at West Liberty on Friday before hosting West Virginia State on Saturday.
