FINDLAY, OH – The women's volleyball team dropped two matches against Malone and Findlay to close out the Findlay Fall Classic Saturday.
The Crimson Hawks first took on Malone, falling in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-18.
IUP battled hard in the first set, led by
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) and
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) who had each registered four kills. The Crimson Hawks kept it close, fighting back from a 20-13 deficit to get within one point. The Pioneers, however, would take control and claim the 25-20 victory.
In the second set, the Crimson Hawks benefitted from a plethora of Malone errors in addition to two kills from both
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) and
Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny). The set remained close until the end, but the Pioneers came away with the victory.
The team moved on to face host Findlay in their final game of the tournament. They would fall to the Oilers in four sets, winning the third 25-21. In that third set, the Crimson Hawks got out to an early 5-2 lead with kills by Kissell and Miara. The Oilers would battle hard but never got closer than two points of IUP's lead. The attack was spread out for the Crimson Hawks as six different players registered kills. Kissell led the way with four, followed by Sova and
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) with three apiece, Schneider with two and Miara and
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) with one each.
IUP's attempt at a comeback was cut short when Findlay claimed the fourth set 25-12.
The team falls to 0-7 on the season. They will be in action Sept. 20 and 21 as they head to Erie for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference/West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover tournament, where they'll face Notre Dame College (Ohio), West Virginia Wesleyan and West Virginia State.
