Late Goal Not Enough as Soccer Falls to Kutztown

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, PA – A late goal from Mandy Cerminara (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) was not enough for the IUP women's soccer team, as the Crimson Hawks fell to Kutztown 3-1.

Cerminara's goal came in the 79th minute with the Crimson Hawks trailing 3-0. She was able to gain possession of the ball in the box and shot it from the right side.

The game was scoreless for the first 23 minutes of play with each team failing to connect on shots. Kutztown's first goal came on their fourth shot of the game when Rubi Mink scored on a rebound in front of the net.

The remainder of the first half was quite, as both teams were unable to score.

Kutztown opened up the second half strong, scoring just a minute into the half. This time, Megan Frailer knocked it in on a cross pass from Mink.

One more goal was all Kutztown would need to claim the victory. That came in the 64th minute when Katie Miller scored off a corner kick.

Kutztown outshot the Crimson Hawks 14-7 and forced IUP goalkeepers Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) and Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge) to make a combined five saves.

With the loss, IUP falls to 4-4-1 (3-4-1) on the season. They will finish out their road trip in West Chester, taking on the Golden Rams on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

They will return home to host East Stroudsburg for the homecoming game, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
