Volleyball Defeats Lock Haven in Five, Falls to Pitt-Johnstown

GREENSBURG, PA – Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had 12 kills and Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) added 11 in the Crimson Hawks five-set win over Lock Haven as IUP wrapped up play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) volleyball crossover this weekend.

IUP and Lock Haven traded set victories in the thrilling win, as the Crimson Hawks took the first set 25-23 and the third set 26-24. The Bald Eagles came up with wins of 25-14 and 25-23 in the second and fourth sets, respectively.

The Crimson Hawks finished off the win with a 15-12 victory in the fifth.

Schneider helped lead an all-around effort by the Crimson Hawks, adding five block assists and four service aces. Sova had eight block assists for IUP.

Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny) had 22 assists while Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) added 18. Aubree Frye (Indiana/Indiana) had a team-high 22 digs while Kelly Barnes (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Simley) added 17 and Sarah Smiley (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington) chipped in 13. Smiley also had seven kills. Stephanie Kruzynski (Oxford/Oxford) added to the defensive effort by the Crimson Hawks with seven block assists against the Bald Eagles.

Pitt-Johnstown got the better of the Crimson Hawks in their second match of the day, winning in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 26-24.

Sova had six kills while Kruzynski had five. Miara had 20 assists and Barnes finished with 12 digs.

The Crimson Hawks (4-11, 1-3) will return to Greensburg next Friday when they begin PSAC West play at Seton Hill.
