Box Score

INDIANA, PA - Strong performances from all positions led the IUP women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown in their first match of the season. The Crimson Hawks, led by Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West) and Tonya Fabian (Pittsburgh/Thomas Jefferson) , scored six goals in the first half, and never had to look back.

The Crimson Hawks possessed the ball for a majority of the game, putting up 22 shots to Pitt-Johnstown's one. The scoring onslaught started early with Fabian scoring a goal in the fifth minute, and then scoring again in the seventh minute following an assist from Tattie DePaolo.

Goalkeeper Mara Hricik (Moon Twp./Moon) saw the first shot from the Lady Cats in the 12th minute of play. She didn't see much action after that as this was the only shot attempt that the Lady Cats were able to make for the entire game.

DePaolo added another assist in the 20th minute when she passed the ball to Kelsey Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) who was able to put the Crimson Hawks up 3-0. From there, Kuhns went on to essentially take over the game, scoring goals in the 30th minute, 34th minute and 37th minute to break open the game and wrap up the scoring.

Bench players and newcomers saw the majority of playing time in the second half as the Crimson Hawks held the Lady Cats to a shutout without allowing any shooting attempts. Everyone dressed for IUP saw the field, including three goalkeepers in the second half. Pitt-Johnstown goalkeepers fared better in the second half as they were able to fend off all eight shot attempts from the Crimson Hawks.

The game was for the first for Pitt-Johnstown in the PSAC after recently joining the conference along with Seton Hill this year. IUP will take its 1-0 record to Greensburg this Saturday to take on the Griffins. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
