LOCK HAVEN, PA –
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) scored a game-high 25 points and
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) added 18 as the IUP women's basketball team improved to 11-1 with a 77-66 win over Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas Fieldhouse.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Crimson Hawks as they've now won all five of their meetings against teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.
Both Stoner and Stamp came close to posting double-doubles, collecting nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Stamp finished 10-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range and also had two steals in 32 minutes. Stoner went 6-of-15 from the field and 6-of-7 from the foul line, adding two steals and a block in 34 minutes.
The Crimson Hawks dominated early, taking a 20-6 lead at the 13:58 mark of the first half. The IUP lead was at 13 at the midway point before Lock Haven started chipping away, going on a 12-3 run over a 4:08 span to narrow the gap to four with just over six minutes remaining.
IUP got its lead back up to eight but ended the half on a 2:31 scoring draught to head into the locker room with a 38-31 lead.
A three-pointer by
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) 4:02 into the second half put the Crimson Hawks back on top by 10 at 46-36. Buckets by
Talen Watson (Odenton, MD/Arundel) and Stamp a couple minutes later again made it a 14-point game with just under 14 minutes to play.
The Crimson Hawks widened their lead to 17 with 8:23 left and held off a late run to seal the 11-point victory.
Watson and
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) also scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Watson added five rebounds and four assists and Fairman collected five boards and three steals.
The Crimson Hawks turned the ball over 18 times but outrebounded Lock Haven 36-34 and forced the Bald Eagles into 21 turnovers. IUP shot 26-of-57 from the floor, including 6-of-11 from three-point range.
IUP is back in action next week when the Crimson Hawks host PSAC East rival Bloomsburg on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Kovalchick Complex.
