SLIPPERY ROCK, PA - Women's volleyball wraps up the 2014 season with a 3-0 loss to Slippery Rock Saturday.
Despite an attempted comeback in the second set, the Crimson Hawks could not find the win, falling to SRU in three sets - 25-19, 26-24, 25-14.
The two teams stayed together with scoring throughout the second set, with each team answering the others scoring plays, but Slippery Rock pulled away in the end to secure the set-win.
Leading the IUP offense were
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) (6 kills, 3 blocks),
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) (5 kills, 1 block, 1 ace),
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) (4 kills),
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) (5 blocks), and
Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) (3 kills, 3 aces).
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) led the team in assists with 17, and
Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) recorded 11 total digs for the Crimson Hawks.
This matchup rounded out the season for IUP, leaving them with a 9-20 overall record, 5-17 in the PSAC. Seniors Sova, Hester and
Brooke Bailey (Clarion, Pa. /Clarion) saw their last collegiate volleyball action this weekend. Hester entered the weekend with 124 career service aces (4th all-time at IUP), 0.4 aces-per-game (3rd all-time at IUP), and 862 kills (9th all-time at IUP). Sova finished up her career with records in blocks (5th all-time at IUP with 310), kills (10th all-time at IUP with 855, 12th all-time at IUP with 2.23 per-set), and hitting percentage (11th all-time at IUP with .267).
