Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 23 Tampa

TAMPA, FL – The 44th-ranked IUP women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 match to 23rd-ranked Tampa on Thursday in the final competition of their spring break trip to Florida.

The Crimson Hawks fall to 6-5 on the season as they went 2-2 on their southern trip. Tampa improved to 8-6 overall.

Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) had another strong doubles showing, falling to the 39th-ranked pairing of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski 9-7. Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and Ericka Schnaas lost 8-3 at No. 2 and Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) and Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) lost 8-4 at No. 3.

In singles play, Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) took Alexandra Bologno to a third set, eventually losing 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Butland lost at No. 3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) and Timko fell to the 39th-ranked Wladimirski 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.

It was the Crimson Hawks second straight nationally-ranked opponent of their trip as they also played against ninth-ranked Rollins on Wednesday.

IUP is scheduled to face off against Clarion at home on Tuesday as the Crimson Hawks return to Indiana and get back to conference play.
