INDIANA, PA – The Crimson Hawks picked up their second conference win in their home opener, as the IUP women's tennis team swept Clarion 9-0 today in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West matcup.
The win moves the 44th-ranked Crimson Hawks to 7-5 overall on the season, while remaining perfect in PSAC play.
All of the Crimson Hawks finished their opponents without needing a third set.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) did not drop a game today, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Shortly after, No. 6
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) got back on the winning track after picking up a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory. Playing at No. 3,
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) outlasted her opponent to win the match 6-3, 6-2. This was Butland's eighth singles win of the season.

Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) 6-2, 6-3,
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) playing in the No. 4 slot, 6-2, 6-0, and No. 5
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) 6-1, 6-0.
IUP also finished their doubles matches in a half hour, dropping a total of four games. Mahto and Wood awarded the Crimson Hawks its first points of the day cruising to a 8-0 win. No. 1 Timko and Schnaas and No. 2 Butland and McFail both picked up identical 8-2 victories. This was Timko and Schnaas' first time playing doubles together this year. Timko's normal doubles partner,

IUP will head to Institute, W.Va. this Saturday to take on West Virginia State. The time for that match is still to be determined.
