CALIFORNIA, PA – The Vulcans outshot 16th-ranked IUP 24-7 as the Crimson Hawks fell to rival Cal 2-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's soccer rivalry game on Tuesday evening.
The loss was the first on the year for the Crimson Hawks as they fall to 4-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, the same day they debuted at 16th in the NSCAA Division II Top 25. Cal improves to 3-1-1 and 3-1 in the PSAC.
The Vulcans scored both of their goals in the opening half, getting both from Chelsea Crockett in the 12th and 33rd minutes.
IUP was outshot 13-3 in that first half, with two of the Crimson Hawks' attempts getting saved while a third was high. Cal continuously peppered IUP keeper
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) with shots throughout the match, as she finished the game with five saves.
The Crimson Hawks took four total chances at the goal in the second half, with three flying wide right of the goal. Cal had the advantage on corner kicks as well by a total of 9-1.
IUP will face another rival this weekend when they return to the pitch to host Slippery Rock on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at South Campus Field.
