MILLERSVILLE, PA –
Lauren Hester (State College, Pa. /State College) tallied 18 kills against Millersville to help IUP women's volleyball to a five-set win in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action on Friday night. The Crimson Hawks had lost to Lock Haven earlier in the day, splitting the day's matches.
The final tally against the Marauders was 19-25, 25-12, 29-27, 23-25 and 15-10.
Hester's 18 kills came on 45 total attempts, accumulating a .267 hitting percentage on the night. She also had three aces and two block assists for 22 total points. She finished with 24 kills on the day, getting six in IUP's straight set loss to Lock Haven. She also had 20 combined digs on Friday.
Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) totaled 18 kills in the day's matches, including a season-high 11 against Millersville.
Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) had nine kills with three total blocks against the Marauders while
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) had eight kills and six blocks.
The Crimson Hawks came as close as 13-12 in the opening set against Millersville before the Marauders scored 12 of the next 19 points for the win. IUP came out strong in the second set, going on a 5-0 run and a pair of 4-0 runs for the 13-point win. The Crimson Hawks went the distance in the third, rallying from a 19-17 deficit to go up 2-1.
After a loss in the fourth set, IUP held a 9-8 lead before going on a 6-2 run to finish off the win.
The scores from the Lock Haven match were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-22.
IUP returns to the court to continue the PSAC East-West Crossover tomorrow, facing UPJ and Shippensburg in Shippensburg.
