Victoria Crawford (Port Matilda, Pa. /State College) scored all three of her goals in the
opening half on Thursday.INDIANA, PA - IUP women's soccer shut down the Lock Haven Lady Eagles 6-0 in its 14th consecutive home-opener win on Thursday afternoon at South Campus Field.
The scoring action began in the 15th minute with a shot to the left corner by true-freshman
Victoria Crawford (Port Matilda, Pa. /State College). Returning starter,
Brittney Kuhns (Middleburg, Pa. /Midd-West), added to the scoreboard in the 23rd minute after dribbling the ball down the field and away from defenders. Crawford quickly followed Kuhns' goal with another of her own in the 23rd minute with an assist by
Riley Bartoo (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls).
In the 37th minute, Kuhns lobbed the ball into the middle of the net giving the Crimson Hawks an even stronger lead. Crawford attacked again with only three minutes left to play in the half for a hat trick in her very first collegiate game. Her third goal came off of an assist by
Taylor Vladic (Duncansville, Pa. /Hollidaysburg).
Sarah Settlemire (Damascus, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) scored the final goal of the game, and the only goal in the second half, in the 81st minute of play.
Joining Crawford at the start of the game were four other Crimson Hawk freshmen: Bartoo,
Erica Boyle (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney),
Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa. /Franklin Regional) and
Jeanella Hughes (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia). Six other members of the strong freshmen class saw playing time including
Mackenna Miller (Milton, Pa. /Milton),
Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical),
Lexie Palluconi (Penfield, N.Y./Fairport),
Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford),
Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) and Settlemire.
All three goal keepers took the field in today's shut out.
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) saved two goals during her 65 minutes of play.
Ashley Schoellkopf (Perkasie, Pa. /Pennridge) saw 14 minutes and blocked two goals, while
Alex Arnoldy (Ortonville, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) tended the goal for 10 minutes.
The Crimson Hawks are on the road Sept. 6 at Bloomsburg, then again Sept. 10 at Pitt-Johnstown. IUP returns home Sept. 13 as they take on Seton Hill at the South Campus Field at 1:30 p.m.
