Kuhns scored at the 28:56 minute mark in the first half, off of a rebound from a penalty shot. That would prove to be the only scoring of the game, as IUP walked away with its second straight win.
Both teams came out hot, rattling off six shots through the first 20 minutes of play. The defenses, however, were strong, as both goalies came up with big saves. IUP claimed an 8-5 shot advantage in the first half, with goalkeeper Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) recording four saves.
The Huskies again came out strong in the second half, blasting four shots and two corner kicks in the first 14 minutes of play. The Crimson Hawks defense, led by Printz, kept the Bloomsburg offense at bay, still clinging to their 1-0 lead.
IUP's defense was tested in the second half, as the Huskies posted six shots and three corner kicks in the final 45 minutes. Bloomsburg's final push, however, came up short, as the Crimson Hawks claimed the 1-0 victory.
Both teams recorded 12 shots with IUP claiming the 10-7 shots on goal advantage in the contest. Khuns led the way with the lone goal, registering three shots, all of which were on goal. Victoria Crawford (Port Matilda, Pa. /State College), Kate Numer (Lebanon, Pa. /Cedar Crest) and Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville) each recorded two shots.
Printz played all 90 minutes in net for the Crimson Hawks, making stopping all seven of the Huskies' shots on goal.
With the win, IUP improves to 2-0 on young season. They'll continue their road trip on Wednesday, traveling to Pitt-Johnstown for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Cats. They'll return home Sept. 13 to face Seton Hill at 1:30 p.m. from South Campus.
