SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP men's swimming team defeated Shippensburg 163-91 while the women dropped a 153-107 decision to the Raiders as the two schools competed in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon.
For the men, 13 different Crimson Hawks hit Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times on Saturday. Corey Stauffer was the only swimmer with three on the day, in the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly.
Nine different swimmers had a pair of qualifying times, including
Alex Plimpton (Harrison City, Pa. /Penn-Trafford) in the 500 and 1000 freestyle;
Yuri Fernandes (Brazil) in the 100 and 200 freestyle;
Mason Tate (York, Pa. /Dallastown) in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle;
Noah Brockway (York, PA/Dallastown) in the 100 and 200 backstroke;
Shane Hallett (Boiling Springs, Pa. /Boiling Springs) in the 100 and 200 breaststroke;
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg Area) in the 100 and 200 breaststroke;
Rodrigo Feller (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Santo Ivo) in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke;
Andrew Richey (Warminster, Pa. /William Tennent) in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; and
RJ Hammond (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Others to hit qualifying times in their respective events were
Chris Strauss (Allentown, Pa. /Parkland) in the 200 freestyle;
Mace Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa. /Hollidaysburg Area) in the 200 butterfly, and
Russell Oliver (Barbados/Kelly College) in the 100 butterfly.
On the women's side,
Regan Chalk (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) had PSAC qualifying times in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Three other swimmers hit qualifying times in multiple events, including
Paige Spradling (Lancaster, Pa. /Hempfield) in the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke. Other swimmers with two qualifying times were
Taylor Davis (Pottstown, PA/Owen J Roberts) – 100 and 200 butterfly – and
Taylor Cisik (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) – 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Other women's swimmers contributing on Saturday with qualifying times were
Beatriz Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) and
Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) in the 100 freestyle.
The IUP swimming teams return to the pool on Nov. 20-22 with the three-day Pitt Invitational in Pittsburgh.
