EDINBORO, Pa. – Sophomores
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) combined for 24 kills but it wasn't enough as the IUP women's volleyball teams lost to Edinboro in four sets on Saturday afternoon.
The loss was the second of the weekend for the Crimson Hawks, who fall to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Edinboro improves to 15-2 overall and is moves into a three-way tie at the top of the PSAC West with a 5-1 conference record.
Edinboro took the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-19. IUP came back with a 26-24 third set victory before the Fighting Scots clinched the match with a 25-12 win in the fourth set.
Cignetti finished with 14 kills, her 11th double-figure kill match of the season. She had those 14 kills on 34 attempts for a .353 hitting percentage. She also had three service aces on the day for a total of 17 points.
Anderson had 10 kills on 30 attempts, also her 11th double-figure kill match of the year.
Junior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) had a team-high 25 assists. Freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) was among five Crimson Hawks with double-figure digs, finishing with a team-high 21. Cignetti had 16 and junior
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) had 14.
The Crimson Hawks return home for the first time since Sept. 15 when they play Clarion (9-8, 5-1) on Tuesday night at the KCAC.
