INDIANA, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks gave up just 44 yards of total offense while finishing with 407 yards offensively as IUP defeated visiting Cheyney 62-0 in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium.
IUP finishes its regular season with an 8-2 overall record and will await word from the NCAA on a possible Division II playoff berth. The Crimson Hawks entered the week ranked sixth in Super Region One. The top seven teams from each region advance to the postseason. The final seedings will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
The 44 yards given up by IUP is the third lowest ever in program history. Cheyney totaled negative four yards on the ground, which was the fourth fewest rushing yards given up in IUP school history.
The Crimson Hawks gained 274 yards on the ground with eight different players seeing carries. Sophomore
Drew Harris (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) had a game-high 71 yards and scored a touchdown on 13 carries. Sophomore
Luigi Lista-Brinza (McKees Rocks, Pa. /Central Catholic) ran for 51 yards and a career-high three touchdowns on just four carries while classmate
Chris Temple (Malvern, Pa. /Great Valley) had 61 yards on 10 carries. Temple went over 1,000 yards for the first time in his career, currently tallying 1,030 this year.
Redshirt freshman quarterback
Lenny Williams (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) finished 6-for-6 for 75 yards in limited time, also rushing three times for seven yards and two touchdowns.
Sophomore cornerback
Allen Wright (McKeesport, Pa. /McKeesport Area) scored two touchdown defensively, one on a 23-yard interception return and another on a 34-yard return after a blocked punt.
IUP sacked Cheyney six times, with three coming from true freshman nose guard
Dyllon Scott (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.). Scott finished with five tackles and also had a fumble recovery. Defensive ends
Mason Tortorice (Elizabeth, Pa. /Elizabeth Forward) and
CJ Odegbo (Detroit, Mich./Southfield) both had a team-high six tackles and combined for 1.5 sacks. Safety
Takhi Turner (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) also had a sack and finished with four tackles and end Deandre Eastering had a half-sack and recovered a fumble. Safety
Steve Franco (Tyrone, Pa. /Tyrone ) also notched an interception for the Crimson Hawks.
The Crimson Hawks scored in each quarter, getting three touchdowns in both the first and second quarters to take a 41-0 lead into halftime. Lista-Brinza's three touchdowns came back-to-back-to-back in the first half and Wright's scores both came in the fourth quarter.
