INDIANA, Pa. –
Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) had eight kills and five block assists to help the IUP women's volleyball team to a three-set victory over visiting Gannon on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
Schneider, the Crimson Hawks' lone senior, was honored for her four years at IUP prior to the start of the match.
The Crimson Hawks defeated Gannon by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-20. They end their season with a record of 17-15 overall and 9-13 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) under first year head coach
Scott Pennewill.
Sophomore
Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) led IUP with 15 kills on 31 attacks, hitting. 387 on the day. Classmate
Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) posted 12 kills on 26 attacks (.423 percentage) and added 18 digs. Junior
Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) was the main distributor, tallying 40 assists.
The match featured a ton of defensive play on both sides, as four Crimson Hawks reached double-figures in digs. Freshman
Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) led all players with 36 while junior
Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) added 25 and freshman
Breanna Damiani (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) had 20.
Junior
Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) was a leader at the net with seven total blocks while sophomore
Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) had four.
The Crimson Hawks featured an offensive resurgence under Pennewill in 2015, with Cignetti (358) and Anderson (330) each finishing with more than 300 kills. Egler added 200 while McWilliams and Schneider each tallied in the triple digits with 166 and 143, respectively.
Moeller had 947 assists on the year (9.47/set) and had 198 digs. Marut led the way with 550 digs while Cignetti had 280 and Palmer added 236. Schneider had a team-high 97 blocks to go along with 77 from Egler and 62 from McWilliams.
