LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The IUP women's lacrosse team dropped its 2015 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener to Lock Haven by a score of 12-5 on Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks were outshot by Lock Haven 30-to-16 on the day and were forced into 18 turnovers. They fall to 2-4 overall on the season while the Bald Eagles remain undefeated at 3-0.
Kim Hooven (Malvern/Great Valley) and
Tara Nicholas (Germantown, MD/Northwest) each scored two goals apiece for the Crimson Hawks, while
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, MD/Atholton) dished out three assists. Sarah Harshman scored IUP's other goal.
IUP opened up the scoring as Weinberg found Hooven just 2:31 into the game. Lock Haven rattled off the next three goals before Hooven netted her second of the day to make it a 3-2 game with under 13 minutes to go in the opening half.
The Bald Eagles tacked on two more goals before the break to take a 5-2 lead heading into halftime.
They continued their run with three straight to open the second half to jump on top 8-2. Nicholas scored with just over 20 minutes to play, starting a 3-1 Crimson Hawks' run as they closed the gap to 9-5 with 14:12 remaining, but Lock Haven locked things down and added three more insurance goals to close out the game.
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) played the entire time in the net for IUP for the second consecutive game, tying a season-high with 10 saves.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Tuesday as they host Gannon on Miller Stadium. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
