INDIANA, Pa. – The 32nd-ranked IUP women's tennis team easily cruised to their third straight win with a 9-0 victory over Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon at the Maple Street Courts.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 9-3 overall on the season, including a 3-0 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division.
IUP dropped just five sets in doubles play, racing out to an early 3-0 lead with wins over 8-3, 8-2 and 8-0.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) took the 8-3 win at No. 1 while
Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) won 8-2 at No. 2 and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) won 8-1 at No. 3.
Von Agris had the first singles victory at 6-0, 6-2 at the five spot while Butland scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory at four. Petercakova won 6-0, 6-1 at two, Wood won 6-1, 6-4 at six and
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) won 6-1, 6-2 at three.
Timko's win at one went to three sets as she came out with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory.
The Crimson Hawks travel to Erie on Tuesday to face Mercyhurst in another PSAC West match.
