GREENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Seton Hill, falling 5-4 and 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The first loss came in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Crimson Hawks had taken a 4-2 lead through four-and-a-half innings. Seton Hill made it a one-run game in the fifth inning and then scored two for the win in the bottom of the final frame. The Griffins scored the tying run on a one out triple to right and had a walk-off wild pitch on the next batter to clinch the victory.
The second game was a pitcher's duel through four-and-a-half, as both teams combined for seven hits while the score remained tied at 0-0.
Seton Hill busted out with six runs on seven hits in the fifth, and then scored three more in the sixth as a walk-off two-run home run sealed the six-inning mercy rule win.
Lauren Hogue (Seneca/Cranberry) provided all of IUP's runs on the day, blasting a three-run homer to right field in the first inning of the opener, later knocking in another run to give the Crimson Hawks that 4-2 game one lead.
Megan Gould (New Germany/Forest Hills) had three hits on the day while
Stefanie McCoy (New Paris/Chestnut Ridge) had a pair of base hits in the first game.
Alexa Campbell (Manheim/Manheim Central ) and
Amanda Spindler (Brownsburg, IN/Cathedral) took the losses in the circle for the Crimson Hawks.
Now 2-12 overall and 0-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Crimson Hawks are scheduled to host Clarion on Wednesday afternoon.
