Baseball Swept by Millersville in North Carolina

KINSTON, N.C. – A three-run homerun by Ryan Uhl (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys) was the highlight of the day for the Crimson Hawks as they dropped a baseball doubleheader to Millersville at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, N.C. on Saturday afternoon.

Uhl's homer came in the seventh inning of the second game of the doubleheader and acted as IUP's only runs of the contest in an 8-3 nine inning loss. Mike Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) broke up Millersville's perfect game with one out in the fifth inning, doubling to left center.

IUP's only other hit in the game two came off the bat of Austin Mock (State College, Pa./State College), another double which was followed by Uhl's homer.

The Crimson Hawks had six hits in the opener, but could only manage one run in a 5-1 loss to Marauders ace Chris Murphy.

Millersville took a 3-0 lead into the sixth, where Mock led off with a single to center. Scott Hess (Erie/Erie Cathedral Prep) followed with an infield single before a double play left Hess on second with two outs. Jordan Giannini (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe) came through with a single to center that scored Hess and made it a 3-1 game.

The Marauders picked up a couple of insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homerun and allowed just one IUP hit in the seventh to get the day's first win.

Mock had two hits from the leadoff spot in the opener while Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) added two more base knocks. Kyle Zaorski (Reading/Muhlenberg) started and tossed six innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out four.

These two teams will go at it again on Monday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
