INDIANA, Pa. – The 32nd-ranked IUP women's tennis team raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play en route to an 8-1 victory over visiting Tiffin (Ohio) on Monday afternoon at the Maple Street Courts.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 13-6 overall with the victory, including a perfect 4-0 mark at home.
All three doubles victories came handily, starting with an 8-1 win at two by
Luise Von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord).
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) and
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) followed that up with an 8-3 win at one and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) put up and identical 8-3 victory at the three spot.
Wood picked up a quick singles victory, winning 6-1, 6-0 at five. Butland had a 6-0, 6-3 win at four and Petercakova soon followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at two, before
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) dropped a three-setter at six, 4-6, 6-3, 10-1.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) scored a top-50 victory at the top spot, defeating 38th-ranked Caroline Nelhage 7-5, 6-3.
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) finished Tiffin off with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at three.
The match was IUP's third in three straight days as the Crimson Hawks wrap up their regular season schedule with three more matches the following week. Their next match is Thursday when they host Edinboro at 4 p.m.
