Women’s Volleyball Rallies to Defeat Saint Rose in Five

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three Crimson Hawks tallied double-figures in kills as the IUP women's volleyball team rallied to defeat the College of Saint Rose in five sets on Saturday morning.
 
IUP came back from a 2-1 deficit to post wins of 25-12 in the fourth set and 15-7 in the fifth, improving to 4-1 overall on the season. It was the Crimson Hawks' third straight victory.
 
Sophomore Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) led the way with 19 kills, four service aces and three total blocks, putting up a total of 25 points on the day.
 
Fellow sophomores Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and Gabrielle Egler (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Obama Academy) also played large roles with 14 kills and 10 kills, respectively, while also totaling two blocks each. Junior Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy) dished out 47 assists, her fourth 40-plus assist match of the season.
 
Senior Meghan Schneider (Lake Geneva, Wis. /Big Foot) was again a leader defensively, posting five total block assists. Freshman Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had 14 digs while Moeller added 12.
 
The Crimson Hawks dropped the opening set 25-18 before taking set two by a score of 25-22. Saint Rose came back to take the lead in the match with a 25-23 win in the third.
 
IUP then turned it on with its back pressed up against the wall, limiting mistakes to blow open a huge win in the fourth to tie before clinching the match in the fifth. The Crimson Hawks' defense limited Saint Rose to a .086 hitting percentage in the fourth and just a -.211 percentage in the deciding set.
 
The Crimson Hawks return home on Tuesday when they host Shepherd in another non-conference match. First serve is set for 6 p.m. from the Kovalchick Complex.
