INDIANA, Pa. –
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) opened the match with an 8-2 doubles win to help the Crimson Hawks cruise to an 8-1 victory over West Chester in a PSAC women's tennis crossover match on Friday afternoon.
The match was the first and only dual action of the fall for IUP, which wrapped up play at the individual conference championships last weekend. It was also a rematch of last spring's PSAC team semifinals, a match that was also easily won by the Crimson Hawks, 5-0.
Petercakova and von Agris won the doubles title at last week's championships over West Chester's Maddy Shaak and Claire Uhl, the same pairing they defeated today.
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Ekaterina Minchenkova (Mytishchi, Russia/Secondary School No.12) defeated Rylee Power and Graclyn Towler 8-4 at the second doubles spot, and the third pairing of
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset, U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) beat followed with a duplicate 8-4 win over Sophie Rathmell and Alyssa Rees.
Wood opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Abriana Nolan at four. Minchenkova defeated Rathmell 6-1, 6-1 at five and
Mariana Valenzuela (Colombia/George Berkeley School) defeated Steph Cifarelli 6-1, 6-2 at six.
Gonzalez picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Power at three and von Agris beat Shaak at two by a score of 6-3, 6-1. West Chester's only win came at the top singles spot, with Uhle defeating Petercakova by a score of 6-4, 6-3.
