INDIANA, Pa. – Junior
Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical) scored a pair of goals in leading the IUP women's soccer team to a 2-2 draw against Shippensburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season finale this afternoon at South Campus Field.
With the tie, the Crimson Hawks move to 9-8-1 overall and 8-7-1. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders move to 10-7-1 behind an 8-7-1 mark in league play.
Prior to the game, IUP celebrated Senior Day by honoring the quintet of
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson),
Kiersten Zerbe (Danville, Pa. /Danville),
Courtney McHugh (Hummelstown, Pa. /Hershey),
Kristin Buchanan (Bellefonte, Pa. /Bellefonte) and
Jeanella Hughes (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia).
The Crimson Hawks wasted little time in taking the lead as Bryant scored her first goal of the season on a feed from
Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) off a corner kick at the 2:28-mark. The Red Raiders tied the game on a goal from Mallory Patterson in the 14th minute, off a free kick.
The game remained tied until Kat Hartner took a pass from Tori Mills and found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Bryant and Coyne teamed up once again, this time to tie game at 2-2 after Bryant again scored off a corner kick at the 39:25-mark.
In the second half, Printz helped keep the game tied at 2-2 as she recorded a save on a shot from Casey Rightmyer at the 51:38-mark.
Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) nearly gave the Crimson Hawks the lead just under two minutes later when her shot was saved by Leah Roy.
Hannah Stoof (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny)'s header was saved off a corner kick from
Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford) in the 72nd minute. Shippensburg had a few chances nearing the end of regulation as Sharon Juarez had a shot go high before Kelsy Fitzgerald had two corner kicks in the 88th minute.
Both teams each totaled one shot in the first overtime period as Coyne had her shot saved in the 91st minute before a shot from Juarez went wide at the 95:50-mark. IUP out shot Shippensburg 3-0 in the second overtime as
McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) had her shot saved in the 101st minute before Zerbe had a shot go high and
Gianna Parlavecchio (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) had a shot go wide.
Printz made four saves while playing all 110 minutes. Shippensburg goalie Leah Roy totaled 10 saves while also playing the entire game.
The Crimson Hawks enter the PSAC tournament as the No. 8 seed and travel to face top seed West Chester in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 1 at 1 p.m.
