Women's Volleyball cruises to sweep of Millersville on Senior Day

INDIANA, Pa. – Junior Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) recorded her 16th double-double of the season in leading the IUP women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play this afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.

With the win, the Crimson Hawks improve to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in league play. Meanwhile, the Marauders fall to 9-15 and 5-8 in conference competition.

Prior to the match, IUP celebrated Senior Day by recognizing the senior class trio of Kaitlyn Palmer (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana), Lily McWilliams (Rockville, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) and Lindsay Moeller (Troy, Mich./Troy).

Cignetti totaled 14 kills and 19 digs while recording her eighth straight kill/dig double-double. She hit at a blistering .464 clip while adding two service aces, one assist and one block assist. McWilliams added 10 kills and four block assists. Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield) tallied eight kills and five digs. Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) added 19 digs while Moeller and McWilliams each totaled nine digs.

In the first set, IUP jumped out to an 8-4 lead before Millersville rallied to come within 8-7. The Crimson Hawks then went on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 18-9 before taking the first set 25-15.

The second set saw the IUP tie the score at 8-8 on a kill by Cignetti. The Crimson Hawks then pushed the lead to 14-9 on a service ace by Cignetti. Millersville came to within 17-16 before IUP extended the lead to 23-20 on a kill from Anderson. The Crimson Hawks then took the set 25-22 on a service error from Katie Laughman.

Millersville jumped out to a 7-6 lead early in the third set before IUP tied the set at 13-13 on a Cignetti kill. Anderson gave the Crimson Hawks a 19-15 lead on a kill which forced a Marauder timeout. Millersville cut the lead to 24-22 on a kill by Brittany Ford before the Crimson Hawks took the set and match with a 25-22 victory.

IUP continues PSAC play on Friday, November 4 when it travels to face Pitt-Johnstown at 7 p.m.
