THE GAME AT A GLANCE
The 24th-ranked Crimson Hawks open up their 2016-17 season this weekend with the S&T Bank Atlantic Region Challenge. IUP will host Lincoln on Friday at the Memorial Field House and Urbana on Saturday at the Kovalchick Complex. Pitt-Johnstown will also be participating. Tipoff times for IUP will be at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

STORYLINES
• The Crimson Hawks have won the last 16 season openers, a streak that dates back to the 2000-01 season
• For the eighth straight year, IUP is ranked in a preseason national poll, showing up at #24 in the NABC Coaches Top 25, which was released last week
• The high expectations were duplicated at the conference level, as IUP was picked to win the PSAC West when the league announced its preseason coaches polls in October; IUP received 5 of 8 first place votes
• So. F Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) was one of six players to receive preseason All-PSAC West honors; Diaz is IUP's leading returning rebouner with 6.7 boards per game, also averaging 8.6 points as a freshman
• Diaz is one of six players returning from last year's PSAC West Champions; Jr. G Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) is the Crimson Hawks leading returning scorer with 10.0 ppg and So. G Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Year; R-Sr. F Devon Cottrell (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Gateway) also returns after missing last year due to injury
