No. 15 IUP Men's Basketball Races Past The Sciences, 76-50

INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore forward Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) and redshirt junior Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) combined for 30 points as the No. 15 IUP men's basketball team recorded a 76-50 victory over the University of the Sciences on the final day of the IRMC/Hilton Garden Inn Classic on Saturday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

With the win the Crimson Hawks remain undefeated at 7-0. Meanwhile, the Devils fall to 1-6 this season.

Diaz scored 16 points while totaling seven rebounds. He connected on 5-of-9 shots from the floor while going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Diaz added three steals and one assist. Danielak scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds. Junior Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) chipped in with 13 points, four assists, and one steal.

IUP began the game on a 13-4 run after a layup from Diaz at the 14:24-mark. Minutes later the Crimson Hawks extended the lead to 20-8 on a Malik Miller (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) layup. A three-pointer from Danielak pushed the lead to 30-12 with 7:12 before halftime and then took a 40-20 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Diaz extended the lead to 45-21 after making three free-throws at the 17:59-mark. The Devils cut the lead to 47-32 after Beni Toure completed a traditional three-point play with 15:46 remaining. The Crimson Hawks answered with a 15-4 run over a nearly six-minute stretch to push the lead to 62-35 midway through the half. IUP shot 60.0 percent (6-of-10) from the field during the run and had five different players score. From there IUP did not allow the lead to become smaller than 19 points the rest of the game.

The Crimson Hawks shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor while the Devils shot just 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the field. The Sciences held a slim 35-33 rebounding edge while IUP scored 25 points off 15 Devil turnovers.
