ResultsOBERLIN, Ohio – The 38th-ranked IUP women's tennis team defeated Oberlin 9-0 on Friday night at the John W. Heisman Field House.
Oberlin is a Division III school ranked 39th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in last November's rankings.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 2-0 this spring season, getting out to a quick start with a three-set doubles sweep. The pairing of
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) and
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) got things started with an 8-3 win at number two. The number one team of
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and Luise Von Agris followed with an identical 8-3 victory, while
Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) closed things out with an 8-5 win at three.
Wood picked up the first singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the four spot. Menes followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at three, and Gonzalez made it a 6-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at two.
Petercakova went three full sets at number one, with scores of 6-2 and 3-6 before sealing the win with a 6-0 score in the third set. Von Agris won 6-0, 6-1 at five and McFail finished off the night with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at six.
The Crimson Hawks will stay in Oberlin to face 50th-ranked Tiffin on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
