ResultsOBERLIN, Ohio – The Crimson Hawks won the final three singles matches, including a clinching three-setter by
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord), as the IUP women's tennis team rallied for a 5-4 win over Tiffin at Oberlin's John W. Heisman Field House.
It was a battle of two of the top 50 teams in Division II, as IUP ranked 38th and Tiffin is 50th.
Wood's win came at the sixth spot, defeating Aimee Kaye 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
The comeback started with a win at number two by
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) over Valentina Mazzola 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) tied things up at 4-4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bianca Avram at number five.
The win was the second of the weekend for IUP, which improved to 3-0 this spring. Tiffin fell to 11-6 overall.
The Crimson Hawks took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, getting wins at the two and three spots.
Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) defeated Adel Musina and Caroline Harpainter 8-4 at three to start things off, Wood and Gonzalez followed with an 8-5 win over Mazzola and Avram at two.
IUP is in action again on March 7 against Tusculum in Hilton Head, S.C.
