Box ScoreHILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 38th-ranked IUP women's tennis team finished its spring break trip to South Carolina undefeated as the Crimson Hawks cruised past regional foe Chowan 8-1 on Thursday morning.
The Crimson Hawks started off with a doubles sweep as they improved to 6-0 this spring, including three wins this week in Hilton Head. All three teams for IUP won by scores of 8-2.
The 18th-ranked doubles team of
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) paired up at number one,
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) played at two while
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) went at three.
Menes began singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number four with Gonzalez following with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at two. Petercakova took the one spot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory before Chowan picked up its only win of the day at three.
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) won 6-0, 6-2 at five and Wood finished things off with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six.
The Crimson Hawks are in action again on March 19 at West Liberty.
