Box ScoreSLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks racked up three regional victories as they soared to an easy 9-0 victory at Slippery Rock in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division women's tennis opener.
The win was the eighth in a row to start the season for IUP, which is undefeated this spring season.
Five Crimson Hawks are ranked higher than any Slippery Rock player in the latest Atlantic Region singles rankings. Two IUP doubles teams are ranked in the top 10 in the region while one Slippery Rock pairing lies there. SRU is ranked just eighth in the region and is 7-6 this year.
IUP's top doubles team of
Jarka Petercakova and
Luise von Agris, the 21st-ranked pairing in the nation, picked up an easy 8-1 victory at the No. 1 spot.
Raquel Gonzalez and
Rachel Wood won 8-4 at No. 2 while
Claudia Menes and
Alanna McFail took an 8-1 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Petercakova easily won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Gonzalez fought back for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 win at the second spot, von Agris won 6-1, 6-4 at the third, and
Sophie Butland took a 6-1, 6-3 win at four. Menes won at five 6-2, 6-2 and Wood finished things up with a 6-1, 6-1 win at six.
The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Friday when they play Chestnut Hill indoors at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford.
