Box ScoreINDIANA, Pa. – The 36th-ranked IUP women's tennis team eased past visiting Clarion while battling windy conditions, downing the Golden Eagles 9-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
The win extended the Crimson Hawks' win streak to 10 matches to start the year as they also improved to 2-0 in the PSAC West. Clarion drops to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the division.
IUP easily dispatched of the Golden Eagles in doubles play, winning 8-0 in each match. 21st-ranked
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) paired at No. 1,
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) went at No. 2, and
Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) and
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) teamed at the third spot.
Petercakova then breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top singles spot, with von Agris moving up to No. 2 to score a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Butland at three and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) at six both won 6-0, 6-0, while Menes took home a 6-0, 6-1 win at four and Wood won 6-1, 6-0 at five.
Wood improved to 10-0 in singles play this spring with her win while von Agris went to 8-0. The two are a combined 34-4 in singles and doubles action in dual matches this spring.
The Crimson Hawks have two matches this weekend, starting with Goldey Beacom on Friday at home and at Seton Hill on Saturday.
