SAINT LEO, Fla. – Freshman
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored a game-high five goals and senior
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) dished out five assists to help IUP women's lacrosse to an 18-6 win at Saint Leo on Monday night.
Seven different players scored for the Crimson Hawks, who rebounded from a season-opening loss to improve to 1-1 on the season. Saint Leo falls to 1-3 on the year.
In addition to Burrows' five goals,
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and
Adriana Greco (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point) each added three while
Katie Martyn (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored twice and
Emma Hicks (Reedsville, W.Va./Morgantown) and
Lauren Robinson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck High) both scored once. Weinberg added three goals to notch her fifth career eight-point game.
The Crimson Hawks scored the game's first five goals to jump out to an early lead. After Saint Leo got on the board, IUP scored another five straight and ended up heading into halftime with an 11-2 lead.
Both teams scored three goals apiece in the first 6:28 of the second half, but IUP got the clock running with a Weinberg goal to make it a 15-5 lead with 23:11 left to play. With the clock running, the Crimson Hawks outscored Saint Leo 3-2 the rest of the way.
The Crimson Hawks owned an 18-8 advantage in draws and outshot Saint Leo 34-22. Defensively for IUP,
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) had 12 saves in just under 49 minutes and four of the Crimson Hawks' 22 ground balls.
IUP will face 12th-ranked Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
