Box ScoreHILTON HEAD, S.C. – The 38th-ranked IUP women's tennis team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Ashland in Hilton Head on Tuesday morning.
The Crimson Hawks won easily, surrendering just nine points to go along with three singles and one doubles shutout wins.
Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and
Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) picked up the shutout singles victory, winning 8-0 at the third spot.
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) and
Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) won 8-1 at two and
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) and
Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) picked up an 8-3 win at number one.
In singles play, Butland prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at three and Menes followed with identical score at the fourth spot.
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) won 6-0, 6-1 at one and Gonzalez scored IUP's win at two with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Wood picked up the Crimson Hawks final shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 win at six and McFail finished the match off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at five.
The Crimson Hawks will have an off day on Wednesday before returning to the court in Hilton Head against Chowan on Thursday.
