No. 36 Women’s Tennis Mounts Comeback, Defeats Goldey Beacom 6-3

INDIANA, Pa. – Facing a 3-0 deficit after doubles play, the 36th-ranked Crimson Hawks put together a singles comeback with six straight wins en route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Goldey Beacom at the Maple Street Courts on Friday.
 
The victory ran IUP's win streak to 11 to start the spring, as the Crimson Hawks improved to 11-0 overall. Goldey Beacom, the ninth-ranked team in the East Region, fell to 7-5.
 
The comeback win was the first that IUP has rebounded from a 3-0 doubles deficit since at least the 2009-10 season.
 
All three doubles matches were close, with Golden Beacom winning 9-8 (7-5) at one, 8-6 at two, and 9-8 (7-5) at three.
 
Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) got the comeback started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at six. Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at five and Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) took a 6-0, 6-4 win at the top spot. Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) gave the Crimson Hawks a 4-3 lead in the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at three, with Raquel Gonzalez (San Sebastian, Spain/Colegio Sagrado Corazon) and Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) finishing things off with 7-5, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 wins at two and four, respectively.
 
The Crimson Hawks get back to conference play on Saturday as they head to Greensburg to face off against Seton Hill at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
