McFail Honored on Senior Day as 36th-ranked Crimson Hawks Dispose of Walsh

INDIANA, Pa. – Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) went a combined 2-0 to help the 36th-ranked IUP women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over visiting Walsh as the Crimson Hawks celebrated Senior Day at the Maple Street Courts.
 
McFail easily defeated Gabriela Laguna-Leon 6-1, 6-1 at the sixth singles spot and teamed with Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) for an 8-2 win at second doubles as IUP improved to 15-1 overall. Walsh is 7-19 this year.
 
Along with McFail and Wood's victory, 21st-ranked Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) and Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) won 8-1 at No. 1 and Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and Claudia Menes (Spain/San Eutiquio) were victorious at No. 3 by a score of 8-3.
 
In singles play, Wood picked up the first win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Menes followed at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 win and McFail gave IUP a 6-0 lead with her win at six.
 
Also picking up singles wins were von Agris and Butland – von Agris won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and Butland finished off the match with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3.
 
McFail was honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the Crimson Hawks' victory. Including today's two victories, McFail is the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career victorires, combining for a four-year record of 107-58, including 69 doubles and 38 singles wins. Her 69 doubles wins are fourth all-time in school history, while her 107 combined wins are eighth. She has helped IUP to NCAA regional appearances and PSAC runners-up finishes in each of the last three seasons.
 
McFail and the Crimson Hawks have their biggest match of the year on Thursday, hosting 18th-ranked California (Pa.).
