EDINBORO, Pa. –
Sara Harshman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville),
Kim Hooven (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and
Ally Burrows (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) were three of nine Crimson Hawks to score a goal, each netting three each, to help No. 16 IUP to a 15-12 win at Edinboro on Thursday afternoon.
The win was the second of the week for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 10-5 overall and 8-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Edinboro fell to 6-8 and 1-8.
It was Burrows' second straight three-goal game and seventh of the season. The freshman has a team-leading 40 scores this year. Harshman added two assists to her three goals, tying a season-high of five points, while Hooven upped her season total to 29 goals.
Amy Weinberg (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) scored once and tied a season-high with six assists, increasing her all-time PSAC record to 192.
The Crimson Hawks took control of the game early, scoring seven goals in less than the first seven minutes of action. Weinberg contributed to five of those goals, and scored a sixth, finding Burrows and Hooven twice, and Harshman and
Brenna Gallagher (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) once.
Edinboro got on the board at the 22:23 mark, scoring three of the game's next four goals, but IUP responded with three straight scores to take an 11-3 lead. Edinboro went on another 3-1 run before the half, with the Crimson Hawks going into the break with a 12-6 advantage.
IUP scored three goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half, cruising the rest of the way to win number 10 on the year.
The Crimson Hawks held a 20-8 advantage on the draw, with Gallagher picking up a career-high eight while Weinberg grabbed five. Gallagher also had four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Three goalies saw time in the net for IUP, with
Angela Lontoc (Columbus, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) starting and saving six shots in a little over 33 minutes.
This marks IUP's sixth straight 10-win season, all coming under head coach
Mindy Richmond.
The Crimson Hawks have two games remaining in the regular season, hosting Kutztown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
