INDIANA, Pa. – IUP has announced the plans update the turf field at George P. Miller Stadium during the summer of 2016. The new field will be ready for the start of the 2016 fall sports season.
Home of the IUP football, field hockey and women's lacrosse teams, the new turf will feature IUP athletics branding, including a new midfield logo, along with colors and fonts for end zones, and field and sideline numbers and lettering. New goal posts will also be included.
The turf will also include game lines for football, field hockey and lacrosse, in addition to soccer. Miller Stadium also hosts a wide variety of club and intramural games and events throughout the year.
The Frank Cignetti Field name will remain.
The installation will be performed by Sprinturf, which is headquartered in Atlanta and has more than 1,000 installations across North America, including Scheumann Stadium at Ball State University, Sam Boyd Stadium at Nevada-Las Vegas, and Muir Field at UC San Diego.
Announcement of the new turf follows the approval of upgrades to Miller Stadium by the IUP Council of Trustees. Improvements will include an ADA-compliant restroom, visitor bleachers, and replacement of the track & field event approaches and runways. Those upgrades are slated for 2017.
Turf replacement will begin in May, with the stadium closing completely during the length of construction. Miller Stadium will reopen upon completion.
