JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) recorded her third consecutive win via shutout of as the IUP women's soccer team defeated Pitt-Johnstown 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at UPJ Soccer Field.
With the win, the Crimson Hawks improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. Meanwhile, the Mountain Cats fall to 0-8 overall behind an 0-8 league record.
IUP started the scoring early as freshman
McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) tallied her first goal of the season off a breakaway from midfield at the 14:31-mark. Junior
Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) recorded the assist. The Crimson Hawks then extended the lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute on a penalty kick goal from
Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park).
In the second half, IUP continued the pressure as the Crimson Hawks recorded three shots in the first four minutes of the half. Printz made a save on a shot from Kaitlyn Eckley in the 49th minute. IUP added a goal from Palluconi in the 63rd minute as she took a pass and put the shot into the top right corner. Minutes later Printz made another save to keep the shutout intact.
Printz earned the win to improve to 6-3 on the season. Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia made three saves in the losing effort.
The Crimson Hawks outshot the Mountain Cats 21-10, including by a 14-4 margin in the first half.
IUP continues PSAC play on Friday, September 30 when it travels to Kutztown with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
