IUP Football Ranked No. 8 in AFCA Coaches’ Poll

WACO, Tex. – After improving to 3-0 with a dominant road win over Edinboro, IUP football has moved up one spot to No. 8 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.
 
The Crimson Hawks defeated Edinboro 56-28, taking a 42-0 lead over the Fighting Scots late into the third quarter. IUP finished with 585 yards of total offense, including 335 and six touchdowns on the ground. The defense forced two turnovers and the special teams added a touchdown on a blocked punt in the first quarter.
 
The top six teams in the nation remained steady this week, with Northwest Missouri State holding down the top spot with 30 first place votes. Grand Valley State is second, while West Georgia is third, Shepherd is fourth, and Ashland is fifth. Each team is a perfect 4-0 on the year.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce (3-0) is sixth and Henderson State (4-0) comes in just in front of IUP at seventh with 563 points in the voting. The Crimson Hawks garnered 533.
 
PSAC West rival Slippery Rock (4-0) sits behind IUP in ninth, and California (Pa.) enters the poll for the first time this year at 24th. The Vulcans are also 3-0.
 
After opening the season with three straight road games, IUP will play at home for the first time this year, hosting Seton Hill on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff at George P. Miller Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
