INDIANA, Pa. – Junior
Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and senior Kiersten Zerbe each scored a goal to lead the IUP women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Davis & Elkins in non-conference play at South Campus Field.
With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 2-1 while the Senators falls to 0-2.
After a scoreless first half, Palluconi tallied her second goal of the season to put the Crimson Hawks up 1-0 in the 50th minute of a feed from junior
Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical). IUP extended its lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute after Zerbe scored off a corner kick from junior
Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford).
The Senators nearly cut the lead in half in the 72nd minute as Samantha O'Callaghan's shot was saved by
Jessica Printz (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson). Davis & Elkins scored its lone goal just before time expired thanks to a tally from Ellie Rossiter.
Printz earned the win after making four saves while playing all 90 minutes. The Crimson Hawks outshot the Senators by a 14-6 margin, while limiting Davis & Elkins to just two shots in the second half. Both teams recorded four corner kicks.
IUP resumes Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday when they travel to Mansfield for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
