CLARION, Pa. – Despite a career-high 20 points from redshirt sophomore
Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Catholic), the IUP women's basketball team came up short in a 64-59 loss to Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at Tiffin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Crimson Hawks fall to 12-5 overall and 10-3 in PSAC play. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles improve to 12-7 behind a 9-4 mark in league play.
Wolosik was 7-of-15 from the field including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds, two steals and one block. Sophomore
Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa. /Central Dauphin East) scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting while adding six rebounds (three offensive) and three blocks.

Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Central Catholic) led to her fast-break layup that gave IUP an early 4-0 lead at the 7:33-mark. A jumper from Delrika Jones-Carey gave Clarion its first lead at 6-4 midway through the quarter. Appleby then capped a 5-0 Crimson Hawks run to take push the lead to 11-5 with another fast-break layup at the 2:42-mark.
Tyra Polite tied game at 16-16 with a layup early in the second quarter. She then gave the Golden Eagles a 20-16 lead at the 6:34-mark with a layup. Clarion then extended the lead to as much as six-points (26-20) before taking a 26-24 halftime lead.
Clarion used a 7-2 run at the beginning of the third quarter to push the lead to 33-26 on a Jordan Bekelja layup. A jumper from Jen Straw gave Clarion a 37-29 lead midway through the quarter before IUP responded with a 7-3 run to cut the lead to 40-36 at the 2:59-mark on a jumper from junior
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry). The Golden Eagles answered by closing the quarter on a 9-4 run to push the lead to 49-40.
The Crimson Hawks pulled to within 51-45 after a pair of free-throws from Wolosik at the 6:01-mark of the fourth quarter. After Clarion took a 56-47 lead with just under four-minutes to play, IUP cut the lead to 56-51 on a layup from Robinson at the 2:50-mark. A three-pointer from Appleby pulled the Crimson Hawks to within two (59-57) with 1:28 to play before the Golden Eagles hit their free-throws to seal the win.
IUP shot at a 37.9 percent (25-of-66) clip while Clarion connected at a 42.1 percent (24-of-57) clip. Both teams grabbed 39 rebounds
