IUP Women’s Soccer wins seventh straight, clinches PSAC tournament berth with 3-2 victory over Gannon

INDIANA, Pa. – A goal by Mya Hilliard (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) in the 108th minute sealed victory in the 108th minute, as IUP celebrated a 3-2 double overtime win over visiting Gannon on Senior Day at South Campus Field on Saturday.
 
The win was made even more special as the Crimson Hawks clinched a berth in the upcoming 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. IUP improved to 11-4 overall and 10-4 in the league with the victory.
 
The match included four yellow cards, including three from Gannon and IUP coaching staffs. All five goals were scored after halftime, as 17 of the 26 combined shots came in the final 62 minutes.
 
Gannon (10-3-2, 9-3-2 PSAC) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match with a goal in the 72nd minute. Kallie Conte (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) then tied things up in the 82nd minute with her fourth goal of the season, getting the assist from Gianna Parlavecchio (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park). It was Conte's second goal of the game, as her first score tied things up in the 64th minute.
 
The Crimson Hawks had a final shot at a regulation win by a shot by Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) with less than 30 seconds left sailed high.
 
Each team had chances in the first overtime, including a shot by McKenna Keffel (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) in the 98th minute that was saved. In the second overtime period, Gannon had two early chances that went wide before Hilliard's game-winner with less than three minutes to go before the final horn.
 
IUP Senior Day
Prior to kickoff on Saturday, IUP celebrated the collegiate careers of its seven seniors, including: Lindsey Jarolmen (Galloway, N.J./Absegami), Lexie Palluconi (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Brandie Bryant (Essex, Md./Eastern Technical), Cassidy LeDonne (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Kristen Baumgartner (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring-Ford), Megan Coyne (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) and Sarah Settlemire (Damascus, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel).
 
PSAC tournament and standings
The conference tournament appearance will be the Crimson Hawks' 13th all-time and third since 2014. IUP made nine straight from 2004-12.
 
The eight tournament teams have all clinched with one week to go in the regular season, however the eight seeds are still all up for grabs. IUP is currently fourth in the standings with 30 points. Kutztown and West Chester are tied for first with 36 points, and East Stroudsburg is third with 34 points.
 
The first round is Tuesday, Oct. 31 with the semifinals and championship set for that Friday and Sunday, respectively.
 
Up next
The Crimson Hawks are at home one more time this regular season as they host Mercyhurst (4-8-4, 3-8-3) on Wednesday.
