Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ryan Rebholz, Sports Information Director

IUP Women’s Soccer drops 1-0 decision at West Chester; looks forward to PSAC tournament

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – IUP women's soccer ended its regular season with a 1-0 loss at West Chester on Saturday. The Crimson Hawks now turn their attention to next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

The loss was the first for the Crimson Hawks since September 22, ending their program record eight-game win streak. IUP wraps up the regular season with a 12-5 overall record and an 11-5 mark in the PSAC.

That league record is currently good for fourth in the conference standings, but IUP will wait for Gannon's Saturday night result to see it clinches home field in Tuesday's quarterfinal round. If the Crimson Hawks remain the fourth seed, they will host Gannon. A Saturday night win by the Golden Knights will vault them into the fourth spot and IUP will travel to Erie next week.

On Saturday, West Chester dominated offensively with 16 shots compared to IUP's three. The Golden Rams' goal came right before the halftime horn in the 45th minute. Crimson Hawks goalie freshman Makenzie Witzel (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had a season-high nine saves in the net.

Up next
IUP's PSAC quarterfinal match will be Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
