NOTRE DAME, Ind. – IUP women's basketball opened its exhibition season with a 108-40 loss to the University of Notre Dame on Wednesday night. The Fighting Irish are the fifth-ranked team in Division I heading into the 2017-18 season.

Last year's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Champion and Elite Eight participant, Notre Dame shot 61 percent from the floor for the night. Mikayla Vaughn scored a game-high 30 points on 12-of-13 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds, while Marina Mabrey had 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.
Junior guard
Carolyn Appleby (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) scored a team-high nine points in 22 minutes for the Crimson Hawks. Redshirt junior guard
Lauren Wolosik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) played a game-high 35 minutes and scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Other team leaders included junior forward
Brittany Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) with four rebounds and senior guard
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) with three assists.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks will head down the road on Sunday to play their annual exhibition matchup with the University of Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
