INDIANA, Pa. – Graduate forward
Blake Danielak (Georgetown, Tex./Liberty Hill) scored 20 points as five Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures in the sixth-ranked IUP men's basketball 93-60 win over Urbana on Friday night in the Kovalchick Complex.
Danielak shot 8-of-12 from the field and drained four 3-pointers in just 24 minutes as the Crimson Hawks won their opening game of the 2017 IRMC/Hilton Garden Inn Classic.
The red-hot Crimson Hawks shot 56 percent from the field and made 15-of-29 from beyond the arc in their best shooting performance of the early season. They made 10 of those threes in the first half alone to get out to a commanding 52-23 lead at the break.
Senior guard
Anthony Glover, Jr. (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) and junior guard
Dante Lombardi (Indiana, Pa./The Kiski School) each scored 11 points in the opening half, combining for six 3-pointers, six assists, and no turnovers. Glover finished the game with 18 while Lombardi had 15.
Also reaching double-figures in scoring were freshman forward Jalen Vaughns and sophomore guard Malik Miller off the bench, adding 13 and 10 points, respectively.
As usual, IUP's ball movement generated 27 assists on its 36 made baskets on Friday. Eight different players dished out at least one assist, led by Lombardi with six, Glover with five, and junior forward
Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) with four.
Diaz also had a game-high eight rebounds, helping the Crimson Hawks outrebound Urbana 41-to-29.
Crimson Hawks wrap up their weekend on Saturday
IUP will face Virginia State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to finish up the IRMC/Hilton Garden Inn Classic. Virginia State defeated Pitt-Johnstown 79-75 earlier on Friday.
