Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Ryan Rebholz, Sports Information Director

Crimson Hawks continue to roll, take down Lock Haven in three sets

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior outside hitter Natalie Cignetti (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) had 22 kills and senior setter Katie Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) dished out 41 assists to lead IUP women's volleyball to a three-set win over visiting Lock Haven at the Memorial Field House on Friday night.

The 22 kills for Cignetti are a season-best for a three-set match while Miller topped 1,000 assists for the season. Cignetti also had three service aces and five total blocks to finish with 28.0 points on the night.

It was the fourth straight win for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 20-7 overall and 11-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). That 11-3 record is tied with four other schools for the best in the league, while the four wins are currently the most of any conference team.

IUP took the first set with ease by a score of 25-14. The second set looked to be going the same way, with IUP taking a 10-5 lead. Lock Haven (11-15, 4-10 PSAC) kept it close and forced four late ties before the Crimson Hawks used back-to-back kills by Cignetti to win 30-28.

Lock Haven used that momentum in the third set to take a 10-6 lead before IUP roared back with an 11-2 run to take a five-point lead in the set. The closest the Bald Eagles would get the rest of the way was three points as IUP cruised to the match win.

Aiding in the offensive effort was senior outside hitter Alexis Anderson (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield), who came off the bench to finish with 14 kills. Junior libero Jess Marut (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had a match-high 23 digs, while Cignetti and Ellie Burns (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) added 13 apiece.

Up next
A huge test awaits the Crimson Hawks tomorrow as they host Pitt-Johnstown (21-6, 11-3). First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Kovalchick Complex.
